Super Mullet

To make up for the length of my last post, here is a picture from an expedition tonight to Wal-Mart. Here you see Nick with a wild specimen of the WORST MULLET IN HISTORY. Why would anyone, redneck or not, ever even consider doing this to their child?

Mullets this bad = child abuse

Let’s wasting time!

I’m about to go to bed, and for the first time all week I get to wake up as late as I want, woo-hoo! Before I go, I thought I’d share with you two links that have been off the charts on the awesome meter recently for me. I’ve probably already shared these with a lot of you, since of course you have to spread the word about awesome stuff you find online (like a virus!).

The Ultimate Showdown
www.ultimateshowdown.org

This has to be one of the greatest Flash movies I have ever seen. There is an original song to it, and the animations are amazing. Not technically-speaking, just content and originality-speaking.

Retro Junk
www.retrojunk.com

Nick sent me a link from this site the other night, then the day right after that, the IDS talked about it in an article. Soon after, I decided to explore the site, and ended up wasting almost an entire hour on it just browsing the goods. Basically the site just has archives of old TV openings and commercials, with stuff from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. For shows that we watched while growing up, this site is awesome. Be sure to check out Ninja Turtles, the Ghostbusters Cartoon, Darkwing Duck, Heathcliffe, and all the Nickeloden shows.

And people wonder why I sit on the computer for hours on end getting no actual work done.

Should have learned the first time

Click to see full versionLast night I went with Brian and Nick to the good ol’ China Buffet on 3rd street. We go there somewhat often, since it’s cheap and not too bad. Your standard cheap Chinese buffet restaurant. Also pretty much every entree they have there is some form of chicken, not that that’s a bad thing. Anyways, the main point of this story came at the end of the meal, when it was time to get some dessert. This doesn’t count Nick’s half dessert half meal, which was banana pudding and rice on the same plate. No, Nick, this still isn’t how you make rice pudding.

Now, before I go too far, I must mention that back during the A-Team Halloween weekend, we all went to China Buffet and saw some guy with a super mega ultra mullet. One of his offspring (there was about 20 of them with him) also puked while we were waiting in line to eat. Nothing whets your appetite like some redneck kid puking all over the floor. For dessert, we got the China Buffet brownies. I’d never eaten them before, and they didn’t look that bad. I think either Ari or Fatla had theirs first, and apparently it tasted horrible. You’d think to yourself that if something tastes bad, you wouldn’t want to try it. That’s not how it went down. I think this best relates to that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine has the stinky pen. Even though she knew it was a stinky pen, she kept on smelling it. Something about doing such a stupid thing is appealing or something. Thus is the CB brownie. It was bad, and yet we all tried it. Instead of tasting like chocolate or a brownie, it has some kind of weird bubblegum or otherwise NOT CHOCOLATE flavor.

Back to the present (er, yesterday). The brownies were back on the dessert tray; the first time I’ve seen them in months. Actually I had forgotten about the Halloween incident, probably because I blocked it out of my memory. Nick and I each got one, and he reminded me of how bad they were last time. You’d think we would have just left them uneaten, as we’d experienced the horror once before. You’d be wrong. We each tried them again, and they are indeed as bad as they were before. Seriously, they taste like some kind of chemical loaf with brown food coloring. Brian, who hasn’t gone to CB with us back at Halloween, was even coaxed into trying the evil dessert. The moral of the story is: don’t eat the brownies at CB. No matter how much time has passed or how good and chocolate-like they appear, they will taste like nuclear waste and should be avoided at all costs.
this is true disgust!

I got jokes

I was gonna try and write a long blog covering random stuff that’s happened to me in the last month (Minneapolis, Chicago, etc), but I’m lazy so maybe I’ll do it later on. I was talking to Alicia online and got bored again, so I Photoshopped a picture with her favorite movie character, the open-faced vampires from Blade II. I suppose it’s mean to mess with her over and over with this thing, but I’m sorry, it’s funny. Earlier today I put a picture of it on the Facebook photo thing, and tagged it as her. She saw it, was scared, and freaked out. Haha #1. Just now, I edited it onto another picture to catch her off guard. It totally worked. Below is the actual edited picture, followed by our AIM conversation. I’m a really nice guy.

Funniest moment of the day: standing in line at the Registrar’s Office so that I can get a copy of my transcript. If you don’t know the IU Registrar’s office, it’s an old building, old desks, old ladies, and huge weird oil paintings on the walls. It feels like it should be in either a museum or a library.

And then I hear it. Coming from a radio is “What is Love?” by Haddaway. That’s right, the theme song they use for the Roxbury guys on SNL. Freaking hilarious. I could just imagine the old ladies doing the neck bob dance.

Here is the last post of what may very well be my last summer vacation (from school at least), ever. At the very least, it’s the last post of summer vacation 2005. It’s about 3:30AM, and I have a meeting at 10. Yeah, a meeting before classes even start. Yay. Anywho, I feel like this is the first time (maybe in my life) that I haven’t prepared for a new semester of classes. When you’re in elementary school, you have all your school supplies and crap packed in your bookbag, ready to go. Then you end up doing pretty much the same thing in middle school, although by then you also have a folder with papers and stuff. Then in high school, you don’t care quite as much but there’s always the binder of papers, and you care about who you’re going to see and talk to at school. College starts, and you have to actually get your books on your own, make it to class (after finding the building) and all that jazz. Usually, I’m pretty prepared, have books, etc by the start of classes. Well, this year, for some reason or another, I’ve done pretty much NOTHING. I haven’t gone to the bookstore to buy any books, I haven’t dug my bookbag from my room, I haven’t emptied out the papers in my binder from last spring, haven’t put pens or pencils in my bag. Heck, the most I’ve done was print out a syllabi and some Powerpoint slides from OnCourse about an hour ago.

There was no reason for that entire first paragraph, just pointing out that I don’t care about classes right now. Maybe it’s not that, just that I don’t care about preparing anymore. Textbook-wise, I’m going to wait until tomorrow night or Tuesday night to decide 1) if I really even need to buy the books, 2) if I should get them here in town or online. I’ve never actually bought textbooks online, but checking out Half.com the other day, it looks like I can get a lot of those big textbooks for much cheaper than the used ones at TIS or the IU Bookstore. Only problem with buying them online is that I think they’re cheaper versions (called “International”), and also it would probably take over a week to get delivered. Not like I ever really read my textbooks anyway.

In other blog news (nothing of importance), I’ve been watching this Japanese drama show lately (thanks to BitTorrent, of course), called Densha Otoko (電車男). It’s pretty sweet, although definitely pretty cheesy at times. It started broadcasting in July while I was there, but I never really have time to watch shows regularly in Japan. Plus this way I can download a bunch and watch them in a row. This show is an interesting story in itself. Apparently, a year or two ago on this huge Japanese BBS called 2ch, there were posts from a huge dork that saved a girl on a train, and the two ended up falling in love and getting together or somat. The “actual” posts from the BBS, which documented this story of them meeting and getting together, posted by the guy himself, was printed into a book, which became a best-seller in Japan. Now there is this TV show, a movie, comics, etc based on this story. Some people say this is all fake, and some that it really is a true story. Whatever, it doesn’t matter, it’s a cool show. Also, Misaki Ito plays the chick, and she is like the hottest girl I have ever seen. So that’s one of the Japanese shows I’ve been watching lately. And since I haven’t posted any pictures in my blog in a while, here is some stuff from Densha Otoko:

And to wrap up this post and this summer vacation up, I leave you with an image of the funniest sight all week: Nick Roberts showing up in my apartment when everyone is over, wearing a huge leather coat with a fur collar and cuffs. Nick truly is a man of style (what kind, I do not know). Laugh, and enjoy the fall everyone. I’m going to bed. Back to being a hard working student!
