Wednesday was the “official” opening of the dorms here at IU, meaning one thing and one thing only: freshmen coming to campus by the masses. I went to IUSTV on Wednesday afternoon and every parking space on campus must have been taken up. It was nuts. And starting then (probably until next week), there are multiple groups of new kids walking all over the place. In the daytimes, you see them at the dorms, moving their junk in by the cartload, with their parents minivans blocking not only the circle driveways, but every road even remotely close to a dorm or campus apartments. Then you have these kids and their parents walking around in 3-person cells trying to figure out where everything is. Where is the library, where is the cafeteria, where is the phone booth, all kinds of stupid stuff like that. Then, anytime after 6PM when you drive through campus (or anywhere surrounding the area) you see the kiddies separated from their parents, now walking in packs. I drove down 3rd Street last night around 11:30 and saw at least 6 or 7 groups of freshmen walking towards Kirkwood. Seriously, it was like there is some kind of big magnet drawing the Freshmen to something on the west side of town. Look, kids. You can’t get into bars if you’re not 21. You don’t know where anything is. We know that you’re new. Stop crowding up the roads when I need to park to get to IUSTV. Yarg.
On less of a rant, I’ve realized after seeing the new kids walk around (and of course I laugh an evil laugh when I see people lost or wandering), how far and awesome I have become in the past few years. True, I was a freshman at one point. Now I’m a senior; from one end of the spectrum to the other, I am pretty much at the “King Level” of being on campus. Senior year is going to be mega sweet, just like senior year in high school was the best time ever there. I’m the boss of IUSTV now. They’re making me a new studio and office in Read that will be done in about a month. I’m going to have a pretty easy class load, meaning I get to do fun stuff at IUSTV. I know Bloomington and IU like the back of my hand. It is here for my convenience. Outside of that, I have about one year (a little less) to figure out what I’m going to do in May/June/July when I am done with school, have two degrees, and am going to need to find a way to support myself. Yes, fans, it’s time for Anthony Leong to start looking for a job. That’s going to be a lot of fun. And no, I don’t know if I’m going to work in TV or whatnot, and no, I don’t know if I’m going to work in America or in Japan. Honestly, there are so many things that I would like to do, as long as I find a decent job that remotely interests me and pays decent money, I don’t care where or what I am doing.
There really wasn’t much point to this post either, except to tell how bad parking is on campus, and also to say that I am awesome and senior year is going to be great. Also, if you have any leads or connections to help me land a sweet job, let me know!
